In case you were wondering, the mayoral candidacy of so-called “comic pastor” and community activist Reverend Billy (AKA William C. Talen) is not a joke. It is dead serious, and part of a long term strategy by the New York Green Party to win back the ballot status it lost in 2002.
“Of course he’s running to win, but my own interpretation is this may lead us to a base of people who could vote for us next year for the ballot line,” said former Green Party Secretary Craig Seeman, who remains a member of the party’s executive committee.
